Botox Staten Island

botox-1

Botox is one of the most sought after and widely available anti-aging treatments in Staten Island.  You want to make sure that you are seeing a licensed and trained Dermatologist when getting treated with Botox.

What areas does Botox treat?

Botox is commonly used for reducing the appearance of crow’s feet (wrinkles in the corner of the eyes), forehead lines, and frown lines.  Treating these areas with Botox will result in a younger, more relaxed and more refreshed appearance which is what everyone is seeking these days.

Many patients choose Botox in conjunction with other treatments such as dermal fillers to enhance results.  Dermal fillers such as Juvederm and Restylane are often called a “liquid facelift”, as they fill in creases and wrinkles, create facial contours, and replace lost volume.

Our dermatologists at Metropolitan Dermatology will discuss all of the available options with you so you can make the decision that is best suited for you.

How do Botox injections work?

When you smile, yawn, or make any other facial expressions, the muscles under the skin will contract.  Although you want this to happen, some other, smaller contractions can cause fine lines and wrinkles to form over time.  These can become permanent, giving you a less youthful appearance if not treated early.

Botox injections prevent nerve signals from reaching those facial muscles, halting them from being able to contract.  Therefore, you’re still able to make normal facial expressions, but the fine lines and wrinkles that resulted from those expressions, will not be visible.

Who is a candidate for Botox treatment?

Most people who have unwanted facial wrinkles is a candidate for Botox treatment.  As we mentioned above, it is most commonly used for crow’s feet, forehead lines, and frown lines but can have additional applications.

If you think you may be allergic to any of the ingredients of Botox, have a skin infection in the area to be treated, have any muscle or nerve disorders, or are pregnant or breast-feeding, you may not be a good candidate.

Are There any Side Effects of Botox?

There are some potential side effects such as droopy eyelids, uneven eyebrows, and bruising.  We at, Metropolitan Dermatology, believe that risks can be minimized by choosing a highly experienced and qualified injector.

What is the treatment plan and what can I expect?

The Botox procedure only takes a few minutes and there is minimal discomfort in most cases. The treatment areas are thoroughly cleaned and the needles used for the injections are very fine.  You may experience some minor bruising and swelling at the injection site, but this will dissipate shortly after the procedure is completed.

It is important to follow your doctor’s recommendations before and after Botox treatment to ensure a successful outcome.  In most cases you’ll be instructed to avoid aspirin, alcohol, and NSAIDs like ibuprofen (Advil/Motrin) up to two weeks prior to your procedure to assist with reducing your risk of bruising.  It may take a few days or up to a week for the treatment to take full effect, so be patient.

What is the cost of Botox in Staten Island?

Botox is sold by the unit and the cost will depend on how many areas we are treating and how many units are required per area.  For example, one person’s frown lines may require up to five units, while their forehead may require up to twenty units.

Results typically last 4-6 months.  Over time, most patients report that fine lines and wrinkles diminish significantly.

We are proud to offer two financing options for those who need it: CareCredit and Greensky.  You can read more about these options here.
