It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of Dr. Joseph Eastern, a respected physician, researcher, speaker, educator, and a cherished member of the dermatology community.

On behalf of all of us at Metropolitan Dermatology, we honor Dr. Eastern not only for his many professional contributions, but for the person he was. He carried a rare lightness about him—easygoing, generous with his time, and unfailingly kind. Always approachable, he had a unique way of making people feel at ease while sharing his depth of knowledge and experience.  Dr. Eastern’s lectures were not only insightful and practical, but delivered with a calm, encouraging style that resonated deeply with colleagues and audiences alike. His guidance helped shape careers and practices, leaving a meaningful impact that continues today.

Beyond medicine, Dr. Eastern had a profound passion for travel and photography. His office walls were adorned with stunning photographs from around the world – images that reflected not just destinations, but moments, perspectives, and beauty. He was an exceptional photographer, and his work revealed the curiosity and appreciation for the world that so perfectly mirrored his approach to life and medicine.

Dr. Eastern leaves behind a legacy defined by mentorship, curiosity, generosity, and kindness. He inspired countless colleagues both professionally and personally, and we are all better for having known him.

He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by his family, friends, colleagues, patients, and all who were fortunate enough to cross paths with him.
