Dr. Alan Cohen was born and raised in San Antonio, Texas. He graduated with honors from Vanderbilt University with a degree in engineering. He then studied medicine at Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, followed by an internship in Internal Medicine at the University of Texas Medical branch in Galveston. Dr. Cohen did a research fellowship and residency in dermatology at Tulane University in New Orleans. While there, he did a presentation on antiviral agents at a meeting of the Louisiana Dermatological Society. He also co-authored an journal article on a rare type of skin growth called a Combined Nevus.

Dr. Cohen is currently on staff at St. Michael’s Hospital in Newark, and has been on the teaching staff at the Veterans Administration Hospital in East Orange. His greatest satisfaction is seeing a happy patient after a severe rash has cleared. When not in the Kearny office, Dr. Cohen, an amateur chef enjoys getting back to his roots by cooking Texas specialties like enchiladas and BBQ.
